Khartoum, my new home.

Written on 10/7/07

I feel like it was just days ago when i accepted the offer to be transferred to Sudan and now i’m here in this biggest african country. I arrived in Khartoum, Sudan on Thursday, 28 June 2007.

Sudan’s capital city, Khartoum, translates as "Elephant’s Trunk". The name describes the shape of the Nile (see picture below) where the Blue and the White Nile Rivers unite to form the single Nile River that flows northward into Egypt.

My expectation from this posting? At first it was only to save some money for my wedding and possibly an early retirement. But now, I hope to bring back with me a whole lot of sweet memories and enriching experiences as well.

I will never again view Malaysia as I used to. Frankly, there are many things in life that I’ve taken for granted. But seeing the conditions faced by the people of Sudan, I thank god that my homeland is Malaysia.
